Pete Herbert

Pete's musical career began whilst at college in the south of England in 1991 djing alongside Simon Lee (Faze Action) and Andy Williams (Yamwho) before moving back to his native London to run Daddy Kools the notorious Reggae shop in Soho for a couple of years before opening his own shop the infamous Atlas Records in 1995. In that time he cut his teeth production-wise with Atlas partner Nic Rapacciolli (one time Leftfield member) as Bushflange and released 5 E.P.s for HardHands UK and did various warm ups for Leftfield shows on their Europe Live Tour 1996 and compiled and released the compilation Atlas Earthed Vol.1 (Jumpin and Pumpin UK 1997).
During his time at Atlas Pete worked up a heavy schedule playing extensively in London and around Europe playing his trademark groove-based eclectic mix with residencies at Cake And Milk Sunday Parties on the Batofar in Paris, Dusted at Blue Note London, Far East alongside Gilles Peterson at The Scala and Fabric London, Perverted Science at 333 London featuring guests Rainer Truby,Peter Kruder and Michael Reinboth and Larger Than Life at Herbal London, also lots of guest spots for many labels like G-Stone, Jazzanova,Dialect, Eskimo, Straight Ahead, Stereo Deluxe, Spinning Wheel, Jazid, Eskimo, Nuphonic and Sunday Best everywhere including: Goa, Weekender (Madrid)Culture Club (Gent Belgium), The Rex (Paris), Rootdown with Rainer Truby (Freiburg Germany) , Kerma (Helsinki Finland), Amnesia (Ibiza Spain), Cafe de Mar (Ibiza Spain), La Paloma (Barcelona Spain), Maffia (Regia Emilia Italy), Miereai (Vienna Austria) , Jazz Rooms (Brighton UK), Urban Sound (Porto Portugal), TLV (Tel Aviv Israel), Café West Pacific and Milkveg (Amsterdam Holland) and festivals Tribal Gathering,Exit (Serbia), Glade, Vice, LoveBox, Essential Festival London, Big Chill Festival, Electronica Festival Copenhagan, Popcom Festival Cologne and MTV Snowboarding Championships, Switzerland and Chamonix France as well as dj tours including:Pressure Drop, Scotland and Cuica, West Coast of America.
Atlas being the perfect source for new music landed him a job as a+r scout for Quango Records (Palm Pictures) and helped put together many compilations for them (Lush Life Electronica 2001, Nordic Explosure 2002, Afro Tech 2002, Dub Selector Vol 1 and 2, 2002) as well as help sign Zero 7 in the US.
More recently Pete has concentrated equally on production work as well as djing and has had many releases out as Cuica, Optimus, Reverso 68, Bakazou, Frontera and LSB Soundsystem, as well as much remix duty (see discography) as well as running his own imprint Specialist Interest Recordings and continues to dj extensively around the globe... Currently a resident in East London for Lasermagnetic at Herbal and Music Hall as well as regular slots at the Player, Fabric, 333, Nodisko, Sosho. Weekend Club, Mondos, Madrid., Fonfone, Barcelona amoungst others.
